Dr. Archer Dies After Long Illness

Walter Virgil (Pop) Archer, Sr., 67, of 2706 River Rd, Vienna, died Saturday evening at the Shelby Memorial Hospital in Marietta following an extended illness.

The original organizer and instructor for the vocational department at Parkersburg High School, Mr. Archer was born in Parkersburg, the son of Mrs. Clara E. Craft Archer, of Vienna, and the late Stephen T. Archer.

A charter member of the Royal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1118, as a past governor, and a State Lodge officer.

He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen, the Mohawk Tribe, and attended the Wesley United Methodist Church.

Survivors in addition to his mother are his wife, Mrs. Madalene Wilson Archer; one son, Walter V. Archer, Jr., Weirton, one daughter, Mrs. Donna Black, Vienna; three brothers, Norman S., Albuquerque, N.M., Frank S. and Alan G. Archer, both of Parkersburg; one sister Mrs. Louella Wharton, Vienna; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Leonard.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Vaughan Funeral Home by the Rev. R. J. Matheny with burial to be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, where the Masonic Lodge No. 173, will hold graveside services.

The Moose Lodge will hold services today at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home, where friends may call.
