Albert J. Oshel, 84, of 1116 N. Garfield, died at 11:50 p.m. Tuesday at Neosho Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. He had been in failing health the last eight years.

He was born Sept 6, 1870, at Lafayette, Ind. When he was six he came to Kansas with his parents, Jesse and Sarah Oshel, who located near Cottonwood Falls, later moving to La Harpe. He married Frances Purdy Oct 10, 1897, at Everette, Mo., and they began housekeeping at Gallaway, Mo. They lived in Western Kansas for a time, and moved to Chanute the first time in 1915. They were away for a period and returned in 1935 to remain. Mr. Oshel was a member of Odd Fellows lodge at Tyron[e], Okla.

He is survived by his wife of the home, two daughters and three sons: Murl Oshel, of Leanna, and Mrs. Ruby Jeffrey, Fullerton, Calif., have been in Chanute the past few months, and Carl Oshel, Mrs. Marie Hilbert, and Dale Oshel, all of Chanute; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Alice Meats, Eugene, Ore., Mrs. Ollie Melton and Mrs. Lillie McClure, of Iola, and Mrs. Pearl Kleteka, Wichita.

The funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Roy S. Gibson Funeral Home with the Rev. Judd Jones officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
