A daughter of John Elisha and Cyrena (Fort) English, Julia was married to George Hugh Bowman on Aug. 15, 1878. They were the parents of eight children: Fletcher, William Henry, Martin Obid, Carrie Ann Moreland, Newton, Luther, Willard and Cora Elizabeth Burkett Pope. An influenza outbreak took her life in February of 1920 along with two of her children (Martin and Carrie) and two of her children's spouses (Willie Moreland and Asa Burkett).

She had visited them the Sunday before. On Monday her son Martin died and his wife and daughters are dangerously sick. A daughter, Mrs. Carrie Moreland, is not expected to live.
