Newton I. Bowman, 81, native of Ladoga and former resident of Montgomery and Putnam Counties, died Wednesday (Feb. 7, 1968) after an illness of several years. Born Jan. 27, 1887, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bowman. He lived in the Roachdale-Bainbridge area until moving to Florida 30 years ago.

He was married to Grace Surface, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Hubert Stewart and Mrs. Howard Elstner of Pittsburgh, Mrs. John E. Morris of New Market and Mrs. Earl Meekins of Ormond, Fla.; four sons, George, Richard and Byron Bowman of New Smyrna and William D. Bowman of Westville, Ind.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a sister, Cora Pope, and brother, Luther Bowman, both of Greencastle. A daughter is deceased.

Mr Bowman was a member of the Class of 1911 at Wabash College and while a student here was a Little Giant football player.
