Isaac English was born Sept. 23, 1867, a son of John and Cyrena (Fort) English. With his father dying in 1873 and his mother in 1879, Isaac was an orphan at the age of 11. He was taken in by his older sister Julia and her husband George Bowman as indicated in the 1880 census. He married Cora Ellen Graybill on Nov. 1, 1889 in Boone County. They were the parents of seven children. A biography of their son Oscar in the 1976 History of Hendricks County gives the following summary of their children: "Hazel married Charlie Garner. They lived on a farm near Advance, Indiana. Murl married Bernice Hunt. They lived on a farm near North Salem, Indiana. Otis was a barber in South Bend, Indiana. Vergal married Lola Hand. They lived on a farm near Bainbridge, Indiana. Raymond married and was a barber in Terre Haute, Indiana. Opal married Milton Klebusch. They owned and operated Milton's Posey Patch in Greencastle, Indiana." Their son Oscar owned and operated the English Shoe Store in Danville from 1936 to 1941 when he went to work for Allison Division of General Motors where he retired in 1965. Isaac died on Jan. 16, 1944.
