Services for A. W. "Alf" Maxwell, 82, former Putnam County Road supervisor, will be at 10:30 Thursday at Hooper Huddleston Funeral Home with burial in Crestlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Maxwell died Tuesday in a Cookeville hospital.
He was a retired merchant and farmer of the Ditty community, a member of the Putnam County Quarterly Court for 38 years, served as road supervisor and a member of the road commission.
Mr. Maxwell operated the first school bus system in Putnam Co. during the 1930's. At the time of his death, he was a director of the Upper Cumberland Electric Corp.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Avo Worley Maxwell, Ditty community; 7 sons, Ernest, Lloyd, and Claiborn Maxwell all of Detroit; Hooper of Knoxville, and J. T., Lillard, and Thomas Maxwell all of Cookeville; 7 daughters, Mrs. Girtharie Knapp, Akron, OH, Mrs. Odell Grider and Mrs. Burgess, both of Detroit, Mrs. Myrtle Fliss, Rochester, MI, Mrs. Maud Purvis, Bay Village, OH, Mrs. Effie Lou Ray,
Miami, and Mrs. Mable Burkirk, Warren, MI; 2 sisters, Mrs. Minnie Sherrill, Nashville, and Mrs. Prudie Worley, Detroit; a brother, Pleas Maxwell, madero, GA; 28 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
