Funeral Services for Lillard Lewis Maxwell, 84 of Cookeville will be Saturday, March 30 at 1 P.M. from the Baxter Chapel of Hooper Huddleston Horner Funeral Home interment will be in Crest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Maxwell died Thursday morning, March 28, 2013 in Bethesda Health Care Center.
He was born September 4, 1928 in Putnam County to the late Alfred Whitney "BIG ALF" and America Avo Worley Maxwell.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Girtharie Knapp, Odell Grider, Myrtle Fliss, Maude Joan Purvis and Mable Buskirk, brothers Ernest, J.T. and Lloyd Maxwell.
He held an executive position with Tennessee Department of Agriculture from 1971 to 1997; was a former associate with Austin Tobacco Company in Greenville, TN; and was a retired Inspector with the Department of Agriculture-Nashville Office with 29 years of service.
His love for agriculture included having a large farm along with a dairy operation for many years. He was a member of Dairyman, INC and was awarded Master Farmer of Putnam County in 1970.
He was a member and past president of the Putnam County Farm Bureau. He served as a Director of Putnam County Livestock Board; Farmers HOME Administration Board; and the Putnam County Farmers Co-OP.
He served as Justice of the Peace for the 16th District of the former Putnam County Quarterly Court; served as President of Cane Creek Watershed Project; and was a long-time Director of Twin Lakes Telephone Co-Op also serving as Vice-President and Secretary.
Mr. Maxwell served on the first Board of Directors to incorporate E-911 Emergency Management Agency for Putnam County and was a member of Putnam County Tax Equalization Board for 25 years.
He was of the Free Will Baptist faith and a former member of the Cookeville Kiwanis Club.
Rev. Tommy Benson will officiate. Active Pallbearers will be Greg Maxwell, Mario Bean, Richard, McCowan, Ronnie Burgess, Harold Howell and Dr. Ed Fliss.
His family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 8 P.M. and Saturday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
