Lydia Goodwin was the daughter of Joseph Goodwin and Olive Hadsell; born 1806 New York, died 1878 Illinois; married James W. Gould. She was the mother of twelve children: Hiram, Harriet, Alzina, Edwin, Jane, Eliza, Betsey, Lovina, John, Sarah, Ella and Mary. A newspaper clipping tells of her passing "Died, in Wesley, on the 16th of a tumor, Mrs. Lydia Gould, aged 71 years, 5 months and 1 day. Funeral today from the late residence of the deceased."
