Sydney Edward Wallace was born March 1, 1877 in Memphis, Tennessee, and died August 5, 1928 in Tullahassee, Oklahoma. He married (1)Amelia Broughton, December 27, 1898 in Conway County, Arkansas, daughter of Porter Broughton and Celia Maple. After Amelia's death, he married (2) Muggie Hickerson on January 8, 1928 in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Sydney was 22 and Amelia was 19 at the time of their marriage in Plumerville, Arkansas by Rev. H. B. Brown. Sydney and Amelia lived in Plumerville, Arkansas until all the children were born. He was a farmer.

He and his family moved to Tullahassee, Oklahoma sometime after 1921. Later they settled in Muskogee County on an 8-acre farm where they grew corn, cotton, peanuts and other farm products. The family worked the farm with no outside help. The children attended Old Agency School about a 2-1/2 mile walk from the farm up a muddy road to a highway that lead to the school. After a while, they attended Mark Hannah School in Tullahassee.

According to one of Sydney and Amelia's daughters, Bernia, she never heard her father - the children called him Papa - or her mother (called Mama) say a cross word to each other. Neither of them used profanity nor did they allow their children to curse, argue or fight. They were all very active in First Baptist Church, Tullahassee, and Sydney was a church deacon. he was of medium height (about 5'9") and average build. His wife Amelia whose mother was a Native American (possibly Blackfoot Indian) and father was African-American, was a very large woman who weighed at least 300 pounds.

Two years after Amelia's death, Sydney married Muggie Hickerson. Seven months after that marriage he died at the age of 51 of Peritonitis in Tullahassee, Oklahoma. His mother and 11 children survived him. Sydney's funeral was held at First Baptist Church, Tullahassee and he is buried alongside his first wife at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Sydney was survived by his mother, Malinda and his children: Bartha Lonia, Daveann, Addie Odessa, Margaret, Ruby Lee, Velma Rebecca, Bernia Louise, Naomi, James Ambric, Taulease Odessa, and Sydney Edward Wallace, Jr.
