He passed away suddenly on Feb.1, 1928. He complained of a pain in his chest, but as he frequently had that affliction, it was not thought serious. He started up town and when only a few yards from his home, was stricken. a neighbor saw him fall and ran to his assistance, but life had expired when they reached him, and his lifeless form was borne to his home he had left but a few minutes previous.
He was married Jan. 3, 1888 to Miss Edith Fulton and together they walked the pathway of life for forty years. To this union were born nine children, eight daughters and one son. A daughter, Gladys, preceded her father in death. The following children with their mother survive; Roy Barnard, of Decatur, Ill.; Mrs. Frank Nichols, of Ewing Mo.; Mrs. Ernest Layman and Mrs. Richard Bellville, both of Bentley, IL.; Mrs. Howard Boyer and Mrs. Dave McCollom, both of Ferris; Mrs. Merlin Austin, of Warsaw and Mrs. Robert Kelly, of the Adrian vicinity, to mourn the loss of a loving father and husband. He also leaves twenty-three grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.
It is said, "God loved the common people since he made so many of them." Mr. Barnard was a plain unassuming man, a good husband and father and a good neighbor.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at the L.D.S. church. Burial in Powellton cemetery. The casket bearers were Meers. Chas Quivey, Chas. Anguish, A.R. Jones, W.H. Sargent, Ed Kelly and J.P. Alley.
