Ref: Alfred E. Barnard of Appanoose twp., (Hancock Co., IL), died in a Fort Madison hospital Jan. 9, of cancer of the stomach. An operation was performed last week to relieve him.

Mr. Barnard was born June 14, 1864, in Rock Creek township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Heman Barnard, pioneer residents. He grew to manhood in the east country and was never married. He spent his entire life in the vicinity of Weaver, IA. Six years ago he returned and since had been making his home with the Boyd Harmon family in Appanoose township, the late Mr. Harmon being a nephew. He followed the pursuit of farming.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Abbie Gehle, Ft. Madison, and Mrs. Henry Long, Bentley, IL, and several nephews and nieces.

Three brothers and seven sisters preceded him in death. They were John, Frank, and Fred Barnard, Mrs. Ellen Weber, Mrs. Kate Harman, Mrs. Ruth Sibert, Mrs. Eva LeClere, Mrs. Lucy Golden, Mrs. Verna Bolton and Mrs. Carrie Wilson.

Funeral services were held in Ft. Madison Thursday and interment was in Powellton Cem.
