He was born July 11, 1916, at Hayden, the son of Harvey L. Blackwell and wife Carrie Blackwell, nee Sneed.
Mr. Blackwell received his education in Owensville.
He served his country in the United States Army from February 1942 to october 1945.
On October 27, 1945, he was united in marriage to Ruth Schmitt at Washington.
They made their home in St. Louis, and moved to Villa Ridge in 1985.
He was employed at Nooter Boiler Corporation in St. Louis, and retired in 1980.
Mr. Blackwell was a member of St. John's Gilehaus Church and the Wasington American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Monroe Blackwell and Chester Blackwell; and two sisters, Margaret Branson and Fern Starks.
Mr. Blackwell is survived by one son, Gary Blackwell and wife Linda, St. Peters; one daughter, Sharon Shephed and husband James, Leasburg; one sister, Rose Grannemann, New Haven; two brothers, Bob Blackwell and wife Jerri, Boyce, Louisiana, and Raymond Blackwell and wife Ada, Steelville; four grandchildren, Brian, Tracy and Kerri Shepherd, and Sara Blackwell; three great-grandchildren, Scott, Allen "A.J.", and Amanda Shepherd; nieces; nephews; other relatiives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with Funeral Mass at St. John's Gildehaus Church , Villa Ridge, with the Rev. William Leach officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Memorials to St. John's Church or masses are preferred.
