Elmer "Bird" Carroll attended Washington & Jefferson College and in 1917 was named a college All-American. He played end and tackle. Carroll was a professional football player during the early years of the National Football League. He was a member of the 1922 and 1923 NFL league-best undefeated Canton Bulldogs. Carroll was named 1st team all-NFL end for those years. He played for the Canton Bulldogs from 1921-1925. Carroll was only 5 ft 8 in and his playing weight was 185 pounds. He later coached football at Easton High School in PA between 1935-1946. In the 1950's hewas also named an all-time All-American by Walter Camp. He also coached at Abington High School, PA, into the mid-1950's while teaching history.
