NOTE: In 1850, James' family were
living in Bradley Co., Tennessee.
The census record at this time
shows James to be age 52, making his
birth date in 1798. Another of the
census list his age, and again his
birth date was 1798. Further research
will continue.

James Long was the son of Rev.
George W. Long 1 and Nancy Elizabeth
'Maples.'

James married Sarah, maiden name
not known. She was born about 1805
in N.C. They were married in Sevier
Co., Tennessee. Census show the
family lived in Bradley County, Tn.;
Also at one time to McMinn Co.,
when his parents and 3 brothers
moved from Sevier to McMinn. Then
at one time James, Levi, and Isaac
lived in Walker Co.,Georgia. Later,
all 3 are listed in the census in
Izard County, Arkansas.

James and Sarah were the parents of
7 children:
Hannah
George
Rebecca
Joseph
Ruth
Amanda
Louisa

James' son, George worked for his Uncle
Maples Long on his farm in Boone County,
Arkansas during the years of 1860-1861.
George returned home in Izard County,
Arkansas. A few months later,
the family received word that George had
taken ill with typhoid fever and died.
George was never married. It is believed
that Ruth and one of her sisters married
and lived near St. Louis, Missouri. One
of the daughters of James died unmarried.

Rev.George W. Long 1, list his children
in his Will and James is listed second
after Moses. Moses and James were
the administers of his estate. Later,
Moses and James contested their younger
brother, Maples Long, in regards to
rights to the land on the farm for a
Lane. This was in June 1850, when Maples
wrote to the state of Tennessee on the
action to be taken by the family. At this
time, the letter plainly states that his
mother, NANCY ELIZABETH WAS WELL
AND ALIVE ON JUNE 2, 1850.
Maples was concerned about his mother
and her well being and consented to sell
only if it would not interfer with his
mother's home. Also stating that if it
was correct with his father's wishes in
his will in regards to his mother's right.
Maples states that his mother should have
the land as long as she lived, unless she
decided to sell it, that it was her right
to sell or not.
Signed, Maples Long

This Long family member and researcher
has a copy of this original document.

Research is being done at this time to
find where James and Sarah are buried?
More than likely they are buried in
Arkansas, possibly in the Stone Co.,
Long cemetery, which his brother Isaac
Long's wife, Rebecca and some
of their grown children and spouse'
are buried. This cemetery has been
visited and there are several unmarked
graves. They have large field stones
marking the graves, also the same
in the Maples' Long cemetery in Boone
County, Arkansas.

There are records of land deeds that
James and his brother, Levi bought land
together in Ark.
Also there is an original record book
which is in possession of one of
Maples gg granddaughters at this time.
The book belonged to gg grandfather,
Maples Long, who owned a store in
Harrison, Arkansas.
In this record book, Maples kept the dates,
names, purhases and prices listed in it.
James Long's name is recorded in this
book of gg grandfather, Maples Long.
