He helped organize youth baseball in Davenport and Bettendorf. The Bettendorf Park Dept. named a baseball diamond after him in Crow Creek Park on Devils Glenn.
He died at the University Hospital, Iowa City, from cancer.
He married Celia Ulloa in 1939 in Muscatine, IA.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Council and Citizen Advisory Committee of Bettendorf, Musicians Local 67, and leader of Mark 5 band. He'd been a Golden Gloves boxer in the early 1940s.
Family includes, sister Mrs. John (Frances) Puente and Mariana Rodriguez, (brothers) Victor "Nino" and Lazaro; (dtrs) Mrs. Gerald (Marcia) Wickersham, Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Ekstrand both of Davenport, Mrs Michael (Cynthia) Smith, Bettendorf, (sons) Margarito (Skip), Victor and Christopher.
