William Bale, Sr, was born in Devonshire, England, June 27, 1823 and died at his home in Jubilee township, Peoria county, Illinois, March 6, 1906 aged 82 years, 8 months and 19 days. The deceased came to America and to Jubilee, Jubilee township, Ill. in 1850, and on July 8, 1851 was united in marriage to Miss Ann Bird, a lady of his early boyhood acquaintance and with whom in true companionship he spent 54 years, 7 months and 20 days, at the end of which time God called him to Himself. To this couple were born six children, all of whom are living. They are, William, Robert, Richard, George, Mrs. Lizzie Challacombe and Mrs. Amelia Slane. The community has lost one of its best citizens and neighbors. He entertained a hospitality that few have, none ever went away from his door hungry. Those who knew him best, honored him most. As a husband and father he was kind, loving and true.
