William Bale was born in Jubilee Township Feb. 22, 1853, and died at his home in Jubilee Township, Wednesday, Dec. 23rd, 1908, at 7:30 pm at the age of 55 years, 10 months and 1 day.
With the exception of about a year, his whole life was spent near the scene of his birth. He was the oldest of a family of six children, four boys and two girls, and he was the first to pass away. He leaves to mourn him his devoted wife, and his mother, his brothers, Robert, Richard and George, and his sisters, Mrs. EP Slane and Mrs. George Challacombe, all of Jubilee, besides many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was married Dec. 23rd, 1885, to Miss Sarah Jane Corney, which union God blessed with peace and harmony and a growing respect and love the one for the other. It was noted that his marriage and his death occurred both on the same day of the same month.
Mr. Bale was an upright citizen, law abiding and honest, a man of integrity and sincere purpose in all the common walks of life. From boyhood he had reason to take good care of his physical strength, for he was not overly rugged. Perhaps a terrible fall out of a tree when a lad accounted for this. The last fourteen months of his life he was an invalid, not suffering however, to any great degree until the last few days. His end was a triumph of faith. He had been baptized when young according to the Episcopal service, and many years ago had come into that knowledge that saves from conscious experience. But he had never united with any church till about two months before his transition, when he intimated that he would like to unite with the ME Church of Princeville, and accordingly it was done. His joy during the closing hours of his life was deep and abiding for His peace was his.
The funeral service was conducted at the home south of Princeville on Saturday, Dec. 26th at 10:30 am by Rev. Nelson J. Brown, and interment was in the Jubilee Cemetery.
