Mortuary - Obituary
Rebekah J. Kay, daughter of John and Johanna Kay, was born at Georgetown, Ohio, on March 23, 1845, and passed away at the Soldiers Home at Burkett, Neb., March 4, 1923, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was united in wedlock to Parmenis Smith. They entered the ministry of the Methodist church in 1871 and for 51 years this faithful woman and her husband served in various conferences and filled the various charges that were assigned to them. She was a very devoted wife and mother, and proved herself a worthy helpmate to her faithful husband, especially with the young people and the children. She was reared in an old-fashioned Methodist home, having been converted to that faith in early childhood. Besides her bereaved husband she leaves to mourn her loss two sons and two daughters, Mrs. Maude Mickey, of San Francisco, Cal.; Carl P. Smith, of Los Angeles, Cal.; Robert R. Smith, of Albany, Ore., and Mrs. Lenora Blakesley of Climax, Mich., as also three brothers and sisters, Mrs. Eva Armstrong, of Peoria, Ill., Joseph T. Kay, of Pontiac, Ill., and Dr. L. Z. Kay, of McCook, Neb. Funeral services were held March 6, at 2:30 p.m. from the Soldiers Home chapel, Rev. J. N. Smith, of the church of the Nazerene, officiating. Interment took place in the Soldiers Home cemetery.
