"SMITH-Margaret, wife of Rev. John W. Smith, was born in Ohio, Jan. 28, 1837. In her sixteenth year she united with the M. E. Church; was converted in the following year, and remained a happy, helpful disciple of Christ to the end. July 27, 1858, she was married to Bro. Smith, who is a highly esteemed local preacher of our church, ...

Her husband enlisted in the service of his country; she spent a year with him in camp life. She was always feeble in body and hoping to benefit her health her husband took her for a trip to California, where they spent the year 1874. Not receiving the hoped-for benefit, they returned to Pontiac, Ill., their home since 1858, at which place Bro. Smith followed the profession of teaching.

In the spring of 1882 Bro. and Sister Smith made a visit to Colorado, which proved so helpful to her in her fast-failing health that in September of the same year they permanently left their home in Pontiac and came to reside in Denver. Here, cared for with rare devotion by her husband, assisted by many friends both old and new; she gradually failed in strength, until her poor weak body could hold her immortal, spirit no more, and she went from us on Sabbath, Jan. 13, to her home on high. . ."
