Rev. Parmenis Smith, 93, Civil War veteran, died at his home here Saturday. He had been a resident of Aurora less than three years, coming here in June 1932. . . Parmenis Smith, son of Squire and Nancy Smith, was born November 7, 1841, was reared in Adams county, Ohio, and died January 12, 1935, at the age of 93 years, 2 months and five days.

Entering the Civil War he enlisted August 11, 1862, in Company I of Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was discharged June 6, 1865. He was wounded September 19, 1864, while bearing the colors of the regiment in the battle at Winchester, Va. He returned to his home and started west August 1, 1865. He taught the public school during the winter of 1865 and 1866. Then he entered school at Illinois Wesleyan university, graduating in June 1870. He was married August 16, 1870, to Rebecca J. Kay, who died March 4, 1923, and was buried in the Soldiers home Cemetery, Grand Island, Nebr. To this union were born four children, two sons and two daughters: Mrs. Maude Mickey of San Francisco, Ca.; Carl P. Smith of Los Angeles, Ca., Robert R. Smith of Albany, Ore., and Lenora Blakeslee of San Diego, Ca. In September 1871 he entered the ministerial work and joined the Central Illinois conference of the Methodist Church serving as a minister of that church for 30 years. He was married June 4, 1924, to Mrs. Sylvia Wiley, who died April 11, 1930, at Grand Island, Nebr. On June 30, 1932, he was married to Mrs. Martha Wink, who preceded him in death only a few months."

On 8 Nov 1862, Parmenis Smith, age 20, enlisted as a Private in Ohio. On 7 Sep 1862, he enlisted in Company I, Ohio 91st Infantry Regiment, and mustered out on 5 Jun 1865 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was wounded in the war and survived the war. In 1880, Parmineus Smith, 35, was residing in Milan Twp., Rock Island County, Illinois. He was born in Ohio, as were his parents, and he was aMethodist Episcopal Minister. [1880 Federal Census]

He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan, June 1870, with Elective Scientific degree. He worked as a school teacher in 1870. He was a Minister in the Methodist Church for 30 years.
