David McDowall, 85 years old, a brother of John B. McDowall and himself pioneer of the Traer, Iowa community, died about 5 p. m. Saturday at his home at Woonsocket, South Dakota. He had been in failing health about three months. Funeral and burial were at Woonsocket. Mr. McDowall was one of the eleven children of the Gilbert McDowall family, which came to north Tama from Scotland in 1855 and settled near the present site of Tranquility church. He lived in this community for a number of years and married Miss Joan Wier, a Grant township girl, who survives. The couple moved to Woonsocket about forty years ago. They were the parents of five children — two boys and three girls —all of whom are living. Dr. Gilbert McDowall, of Gladbrook, is the only one of the five whose home is in Tama county. He attended the funeral at Woonsocket this week. Mr. McDowall was the tenth of the eleven McDowall children to die. John McDowall, who makes his home with T. E. Young, southwest of Traer, is the only surviving member of the family.
