Manti Stonecutter Dies At Beaver
Ebbe Jessen, one of Manti's honored and trusted citizens, passed away at the Milford Hospital last Thursday at Beaver, Utah, following an operation for appendicitis.
Mr. Jessen left Manti Tuesday morning, apparently enjoying perfect health, but the following day he became sick and was operated on Wednesday night at 11 o'clock. Thursday night at 6 o'clock he died.
Mr. Jessen was born at Mt. Pleasant 1869. He was of pioneer parentage, his father and mother having crossed the plains with the handcart pioneers. He helped quarry and cut the stone for the Manti Temple and Tabernacle.
Funeral services were held in the Center Ward Chapel Tuesday at 1 o'clock under the direction of Bishop Alfonzo Henrie. The Relief Society chorus sang the opening song. Invocation was given by Geo. H. Bradley, after which the chorus sang "Beyond Today."
The speakers were President L. R. Anderson, Bernard Parry, Bishop G. W. Sidwell, and Bishop A. H. Henrie. A duet, "The Things We Love, We Love Forever," was sung by Mrs. Russel Moffitt and Peter Westenskow. Sam Parry sang "Going Home." The closing song by the chorus was "The Lord is My Shepard", after which Alma Johnson pronounced the benediction. The grave was dedicated by Lewis Hougaard.
Mr. Jessen is survived by his wife and six sons and daughters: Mrs. Carl Anderson, Salina; Mrs. Roy Childs, Gunnison; Mrs. Gail Brooks, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Alden K. Barton, and Eddie and Leroy Jessen, Manti.
