Allen Petty Apperson was named Allen for his uncle, Allen K Gray and Petty for his father. He was always called Pet by his family and friends and persons who did not know better often would think it a term of endearment when his Mother called him Pet.
He was a serious minded, good and religious man, held in high esteem in his community. When only a child of seven he insisted upon joining the church. His parents thought him too young to understand making such a decision, but after long discussions with him and their minister, permitted him to do so. He was always faithful to his religious beliefs and was for several years a steward in the Methodist Church at Wilmer, Tx.
Allen was thirty years old when he was married on December 21, 1892 to Mary Eliza Bigby, called Lida.

Farming was Allen's occupation and his ambition was to own a larger farm. Following their marriage, Allen and Mary first lived in a cottage on his father's farm and he farmed his land he owned located in the Trinity River bottom. When his father retired in 1897, the Allen Petty Apperson family moved into the big house and he managed his father's land and continued farming his river bottom place, which he later sold and bought a farm near Hutchins, Texas. Later he bought additional acreage and the family lived near Hutchins, except for three years in Dallas for schooling. In 1916, he began thinking of cheap land in Oklahoma and that fall moved the family to near the town of Madill, Ok where he lived until he died from injuries received by being kicked by a young mule he was trying to break t harness, on January 24, 1925.
