About 1904 he and his brother Frank Apperson, and his mother's brother Al Gray went to West Texas to farm. A few years of wind, blowing sand and droughts forced them to leave. Andrew and Frank returned to Dallas Co. Al Gray and his family went to Orange, Cal.

Andrew's occupation was farming until he went to live with his parents to care for them during their last years. After the death of his parents, he spent his time between the home of his niece, Mamie Owens Spurgeons, in Dallas, and that of his younger brother, Allen Apperson, in Oklahoma.
