FOUNTAIN INN, Sept. 18 - James Malcolm Ballew, 70, died at 5 p.m. today at a Greenville hospital following one week of serious illness.

Mr. Ballew was a native of Greenville County, and lived in the Simpsonville and Fountain Inn communities practically all of his life. He engaged in textile work and farming as long as his health permitted. He was a son of the late Ansel and Josie Moon Ballew of Greenville County.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ida Bishop Ballew; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Hamby of Greenville, Mrs. Tommie Mahaffey of Fountain Inn, Mrs. Woodrow Brown of Simpsonville and Mrs. Roy Knox of Fountain Inn; six sons, Dean of Pelham, D.B. of Simpsonville, Golden, Lewis and Paul, all of Fountain Inn, and Robert Ballew of the U.S. Navy in New Hampshire; one sister, Mrs. John McCue of North Carolina, and three brothers, Crowell, Bunyan and Stafford Ballew, all of Greenville.

Funeral services will be at the Second Baptist Church of which Mr. Ballew was a member, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. B.L. Wood, assisted by the Rev. Henry Jenkins. Interment will be in Cannon Memorial Park here.

Grandsons will be pallbearers, granddaughters flowers bearers, and the honorary escort will be the Baraca Class of the Second Baptist Church.
