Gwen Tuttle Monroe, age 64, died February 28, 1990 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 18, 1925 in Manti, Utah to Lloyd Tuttle and Vera Keller Tuttle. She married LaMar R. Monroe on June 5, 1947 in the Manti LDS Temple. Active member of the LDS Church, serving as Ward and Stake Primary president, Ward MIA president, Relief Society teacher and Sunday School teacher for 35 years.
Attended Snow College and BYU. Taught school for 20 years working with the Headstart program and pre-school program. In cooperation with the Division of Family Services, she started the Pre-school Handicapped program for children in the area. She was active in her community serving as P.T.A. president, Young Homemaker advisor, 4-H leader for 22 years, vice-president of Utah Cattlewomen, and directed many fund raising drives. Received the Community Service Award from Snow College in 1989.
She is survived by her husband, LaMar R. Monroe; and five children, Jeanne Monroe Young, Sacramento, CA; Lee L. Monroe, Scipio; Lloyd R. Monroe, Burley, ID; Mark R. Monroe, Scipio; Mary N. Monroe, Salt Lake City; and 15 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Norma T. Erickson, Wayne Tuttle, Earle Tuttle, Delma T. Dyreng. Preceded in death by a son, Paul T. Monroe; a sister, Janet Tuttle Stott; brother, McLloyd Tuttle.
Funeral services Saturday, March 3, 12 noon, Scipio Ward. Friends may call at the Olpin Mortuary in Fillmore, Friday, 7-9 p.m., and at the Ward, one hour prior to the service. Interment: Scipio Cemetery.
