Annie M. Bench Succumbs in Hospital at 86
Annie Madson Bench, 86, died early this morning at the Utah Valley Hospital of causes indecent to age.
She was born Dec. 21, 1869, in Manti (Utah), daughter of Ole and Johannah Anderson Madson. She received her education in the Manti schools.
On November 20, 18899, she married Frederick W. bench in the Manti LDS Temple. They made their home in Manti until the birth of their eighth child, after which they moved to Boneta (Utah) in 1908, where they pioneered and helped to settle that part of the Indian Reservation. One other child died shortly after birth.
Mr. Bench died in 1932 and Mrs. Bench then moved to Duchesne to make her home there. She lived there until 1952 when she came to Provo to live with her son, I. Grant Bench, Provo City Recorder at 442 E 3rd So, Provo, Utah.
A member of the LDS church, she was active in Relief Society during the earlier part of her life. She was a member of the daughters of Utah Pioneers and mother of 11 children, of whom 10 are living.
Surviving Mrs. Bench are the following sons and daughters: I. Grant Bench, Provo; Tatton, Donald & Edmund Bench, Duchesne; Mrs. Marguerite Young, Clearfield; Mrs. Geniel Jones, Provo; Mrs. Helen D. Odekirk, Duchesne; Mrs. Francis Hair, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Kathleen Bentley, Monterey, Mexico; Mrs. Ruth Dastrup, Altamont, Utah. Also surviving are 38 grand children; 58 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in the Duchesne Stake Ward Chapel, under the direction of Bishop Porter L. Merrill. Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Aura C. Hatch Mortuary, Provo.
Burial will be in Duchesne, Utah.
