I. G. Bench, 66, Former City Recorder, Dies

Iren Grant Bench, 66, Provo City Recorder for 26 years, of 442 E 300 So (Provo, Utah) died at the Utah Valley Hospital at 7:45 p.m. Saturday following a heart attack.

He was born March 19, 1897 at Manti, Sanpete County, the son of Frederick William and Annie Madsen Bench.

In 1909 he moved to the Uinta Basin with his family who were pioneers there. They
settled at Boneta where he attended school. He also attended Wasatch Academy.

He was county recorder of Duchesne County for several years. He was married to
Alberta Howart, November 12, 1920 at Duchesne. He died January 4, 1952. He married Jean Nesley Peterson September 8, 1959.

Mr. Bench moved to Provo in 1925 where he worked in the law officies of Brockbank and Pope. In 1936 the late Mayor Mark Anderson appointed him Provo City recorder. He retired one year ago.

He was a member of the LDS Church.

He was also a charter member of the Provo Footprinters.

He is survived by his widow, three sons and one daughter, Jay of Provo; Bert, of Orem; Deloy of Layton and Mrs. Neil (Phyllis) Workman of Salt Lake City; 16 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Margarrite Moffitt Young of Clearfield; Tatton, Donald M., Edmond O. Bench and Mrs. Helen Duke Odekirk all of Duchesne; Mrs. Bernard (Ruth) Dastrup of Altonah; Mrs. Gilbert (Geniel) Jones; Mrs. Joseph T. (Kathleen) Bently of Provo; Mrs. Leland (Frances) Hair of Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at Our Chapel of Memories
Mortuary with Bishop Lynn A. McKinlay of the Provo Seventh Ward officating. Friends may call at the mortuary Tuesday from 6 to 8 and Wednesday prior to Services.

Interment in the Provo City Cemetery.
