She was born April 5, 1906, in San Jose, Argentina, to John and Anna Maria (Gertner) Hochnadel. In 1913, she and her family settled in Sterling, where she attended school.
On Feb. 5, 1929, she married Jack Berger Sr. of Denver. The couple celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 1999. They had lived in the Brighton and Fort Lupton area since 1929 and farmed most of their married life.
Mrs. Berger was a homemaker whose interests included gardening, sewing, crafts and being involved with her children and grandchildren.
An active member of St. William's Catholic Church in Fort Lupton since 1941. Mrs. Berger was a founding member of St. William's Altar and Rosary Society. She and her husband were the Honored Couple at St. William's in 1989. She also was involved in many other clubs and organizations.
Survivors are her husband, Jack Berger Sr. of Fort Lupton; a daughter, Ann Markley of Brighton; a son, Jack Berger Jr. of Fort Lupton; a sister, Anne Kaiser of Littleton; a brother, John Hochnadel of Sterling; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Two sons, Leo and John; six sisters and three brothers are deceased.
Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday. both at St. William's Catholic Church, 1025 Fulton Ave., Fort Lupton. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Fort Lupton.
