Freddie Mae Burns was the first born of ten children to Superintendent D.L. and Cora Burns. She was born on her mother's 22nd birthday. She was schooled early in Bible scriptures and became very proficent in reciting scripture at any moment of need. She married Pastor Matthew Thomas Ervin on May 10, 1943, and like her mother, became a pastors wife. Five sons were born to this union. Working faithfully by her husband's side she served as first lady in several churches. She became District Missionary for the Austin Capital District of the COGIC. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 55 years, Elder Matthew Thomas Ervin, both her parents, two of her sons, Leon and Robert James, and several sisters and brothers. She leaves to mourn her passing her sons Fred Thomas, Ernest, and Samuel Lee, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters and brothers, and many more.
