Roberta was the fifth child born to Cora and D.L. Burns. She was a special needs child. She did not learn to walk for several years, however, when she did she could get away very quickly. She never learned to speak but could make others know what she wanted or needed. She had a very weak heart and had seizures. Her mother took great pains to monitor what she could eat and drink. She seemed to crave sugar things which would put her in jepordy of having seizures. On June 19th the family celebrated the Juneteen holiday with a large picnic. It is believed that she ate things she should not have gotten. That night she went into a seizure that brought on heart failure. She was survived by her parents, Cora and D.L. Burns, her sisters, Freddie Mae and Lillie B. and her brothers Louis and Willie Lee. The special couple who took a personal interest in her and whom she was named after, Oliver and Roberta Dottie Hill, also mourned her passing. She was buried just one day after passing away.
