Robert James was the third of five sons born to Matthew Thomas Ervin and Freddie Mae Burns. He married his wife Ernestine in 1969. Five children were born to this union. He enjoyed singing in church with his brothers and cousins, preaching, and raising his prize winning Beef Masters bulls. He spent several weeks at the end of his life in intensive care at Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Supt D.L. and Cora Burns, his father Elder Matthew Thomas Ervin, his brother Leon Ervin and his baby girl Lacresha Yuri. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother Freddie Mae Ervin, his brothers Fred Thomas, Samuel Lee, and Ernest Eugene, his children Nichole Sheree, Meldon Matthew, Robert James Jr, Dwan Demetria and his wife Ernestine, and his many aunts, uncles, neices, nephews, cousins, and friends.
