He was a member of Gainesville Methodist Church, Volunteer Fire Department, Dairymen's League, Hermitage Grange, Wyoming County Cooperative.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Quackenbush; two sons, William and Arthur of here; a daughter, Mildred Moulton of Dansville; his mother, Zadia Nesmith Shearing of here; three stepsons, Brian and Bradley Frazier, Bruce Frazier of Colorado; three stepdaughters, Eleanor Torrey of Perry, Elaine Briggs of East Bethany, Ellen Frazier of here; two brothers, Donald Shearing of here; Robert Shearing of Silver Springs; a sister, Dorothy VanSlyke of here; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Rites from Gainesville Methodist Church with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery, Gainesville. Arrangements by Harmon Funeral Home.
