Mary Frances Scroggs (called Fannie) was born in 22 Jan 1854 in Greenfield, Dade County, MO , the daughter of Leah Caroline Mitchell and William Lee Scroggs. Fannie died 16 Feb 1917 in Mount Vernon, Lawrence County, MO. Fannie was a school teacher. She married John Adams Orr, who was born 22 Jan 1846 in Lawrence County, MO, died 16 Mar 1936 in Ash Grove, Greene County, MO. Fannie and John Orr's children were: Alfred William (Fred) Orr (1875-1962), George Boyd Orr (1876-1965), Charles Houston Orr (1991-1980), and Carrie Jane Orr (1886-1908). John Adams Orr helped found the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon and was an elder there for many years.

Fannie also taught school and played the organ by note. She was active first in the Greenfield Presbyterian Church and later in First Presbyterian in Mount Vernon, Missouri.

The names of Fannie's sons George and Charles often appear on death certificates in Greene and surrounding counties. Charles was a physician in Springfield, MO and George owned a furniture store in Mount Vernon and also served as an undertaker. This was somewhat common, as furniture makers also made coffins.
