Born the son of Thomas Bingham (1730 – 1816) and Eleanor Luck (1752 – 1810), he was married first to Mary Bailey (1784 – 1819) and their children were William James Bingham (1800 – 1887), John B. Bingham (1801 – 1854), Bethany Bingham (1802 – ), Green S. Bingham (1807 – ), Mary Bingham (1809 – ), and Elijah Bingham (I) (1810 – ). After Mary's death he married Benetta Skeen (1801 – 1875) and their children were William Alexander Bingham (1819 – 1890), Jacob S. Bingham (1821 – 1882), Allephina Ellender Bingham (1824 – 1880), Elijah Bingham (II) (1826 – 1899), Armantha Bennetta Bingham (1828 – 1880), Parnell R. Bingham (1831 – 1905), Nancy Adaline Bingham (1834 – ), Thomas N. Bingham (1837 – ), and Alfred H. Bingham (1839 – 1863). Elijah acquired Coweta County land from the Gold Land Lottery on 3-29-1827. The Binghams resided in the county until the late 1800's. They operated a mill around Moreland, Georgia.
