Bio provided by great niece and great nephew Carol Steffen Wilson and Jack Steffen:

Amanda “Mandy” Steffen Evans was the daughter of German immigrants. Her father Hans Asmus Steffen was born in the village of Passade, located in what is now the Plön District of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, while her mother Lena Rohweder was born in the Schoenfeld Parish of Schleswig-Holstein. Hans immigrated to America with his brother Jochen Steffen in 1864, while Lena arrived in 1862 with her parental family.

Hans and Lena Rohweder Steffen had ten children: (1) Laura Steffen Struve; (2) Edward M. Steffen; (3) Clara Steffen; (4) Ida Steffen; (5) Albert Fredrick Steffen; (6) John Steffen; (7) Amanda Steffen Evans; (8) Heinrich Amos Steffen; (9) Amiel Steffen; and (10) Anna Emilie Steffen Lewis. All the children lived long lives, except for Clara (1877-1881) and Ida (1879-1881) who died during a diphtheria epidemic and were buried in Black Hawk Township Cemetery, south of Reinbeck, Iowa. The family farmed near Reinbeck, until ~1884, when they bought a farm near Remsen, Iowa.

On 18 December 1912, Amanda married Luther David Evans, the son of Welsh immigrants Thomas Morgan Evans and Margaret Griffiths. Amanda and Luther farmed in various Iowa and Minnesota counties until Luther’s death at age 55. They were blessed with 5 children: Cecil Morgan Evans, Eldon Albert Evans, Earl Luther Evans, Myra Runnell Evans and Florence Evans.
