Death came suddenly and unexpected Tuesday morning,May 4,to Mrs. Asmus Steffen,one of the oldest residents of Remsen,who passed away as the result of a sudden attack of heart failure.

Mrs. Steffen was 66 years of age.She is survived by her husband,eight children,two brothers and two sisters.The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the home and at Christ Church,conducted by Rev. Fred Wahlers.Mrs. Asmus Steffen,nee Lena Rowether,was born in Parish Schoenheld,Holstien,Germany,March 13,1854.At the age of 5 years she came to the United States with her parents,the family located near Davenport,IA.She remained at home during her younger days,and in 1872,at Vinton,IA.,She married to Asmus Steffen.The couple then settled at Traer,IA,where they lived for a number of years.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with services at the home and at Christ church,conducted by Rev. Fred Wahlers.
Mrs Asmus Steffn,nee Lena Rowether,was born in Parish Schoenfeld,Holstein,Germany,March 13,1854.At thhe age of five she came to the United States with her parents,The family located near Davenport,Iowa.She remained at home during her younger days and in 1872 at Vinton,Iowa,she marrried to Asmus Steffen.The couple then settled at Traer,Iowa,where they lived for a number of years.Their marriage was blessed with twelve children,four whom have passed away.The reminding children,who are left with their fathher to morn the loss of their loving mother,are Mrs. William Struve and Edward Steffen,both of Clayton County,Iowa,Albert Steffen of Primghar,Iowa,Mrs. Luther Evans,Remsen,Henry Steffen of Clay County,Iowa,John Steffen,Granville,Emil Steffen,Craig and Mrs. Charles Lewis,Norfolk,Neb.,
There are also two brothers,Marcus Rowether of Royal,Iowa and John Rowether of Madison,S.D.Two sisters also survived,Mrs. James Steffen of Reinbeck,Iowa and Mrs. Charles Parker of Dysart,Iowa.
Besides these the deceased also leaves twenty-seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Steffen was a kind annd loving mother and wife,and a true friend to hosts of acquaintances.
Her departure is keenly felt in the family circle and is a source of regret among many friends who sympathize deeply with the bereaved family.
Funeral will be held Friday afternoon,with services at the home at 2 o'clock,followed by services in Christ Lutheran Church.Services will be conducted by Rev, Fred Wahler,and there will addresses in both English and German.
