Edward Scott Gillan was born July 27, 1880, near Bloomington, Ill., to Alexander and Jenny Gillan, the youngest of a family of 13 children, and passed away in the memorial hospital at Hebron on Aug. 17, 1961, at the age of 81 years and 22 days.

Mr. Gillan came to York county (sic) in 1883 and later lived in Seward county (sic). He was united in marriage to Pearl Nelson on Febr. 28, 1906, at Seward, Nebr.

Mr. and Mrs. Gillan came to Nuckolls county (sic) in 1913, living on a farm near Oak before moving into town later in 1920.

Nine children were born to this union: Claude of Oak, Mrs. Hazel Widener of Bremerton, Wash., Adabelle Smalley of Superior, Ruby Snyder of Oak, Darlene Fraka of Pico Rivera, Calif., Jack of Oak, Betty Struss of Hastings and Harold of Artesia, Calif. A daughter, Mildred, passed away in August, 1924, at the age of 16.

Mr. and Mrs. Gillan observed their golden wedding on Febr. 28, 1956. Their family and many friends enjoyed the day with them.

Those who are sorrowed by his passing are his wife, Pearl, and eight children, 17 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a brother, Harry Gillan, of Friend, Nebr., and numerous nieces and nephews. "Ed" will also be missed by many friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held at the First Community Church in Oak on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. Robert Zink officiating. Mrs. Zink accompanied James and Alfred Hanson who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sometime We'll Understand."

Casketbearers were Ned Andersen, Harold Stiles, D.A. Genung, Leonard Scroggin, William Ferguson and Jack Montgomery. Interment was in the Edgar cemetery (sic).
