Frank F. Loy, 102, of Jerseyville died at 1:50 p.m. Monday, March 30, 1998, at Jerseyville Manor. He was born June 18, 1895, in Greene County, the son of William Tillman and Anna (Portwood) Loy. He married Lula Day, and she preceded him in death March 27, 1998.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Delbert Loy and Wilbur & Dorothy Loy of Jerseyville and John & Diane Loy of Ripon, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Stanley, Irene, Carl, Frank, Larry, Jack and Barbara Loy and Karen (Loy) Walker; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Daniel Walker; four sisters, Mary Davis, Cora McPharon, Nellie Frank and Canzada Feldjes; and six brothers, John Loy, James Loy, Oliver Loy, Louis Loy, Anthony Loy and George Loy.
A Jersey County farmer retiring in 1968, Mr. Loy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville and Jersey County Farm bureau. He was the last charter member of the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and had held every office including post commander. For many years, until 1990, he was a member of the American Legion Firing Squad and color guard, past commander and past district commander of the Jersey County World War I Barracks, and the last surviving Jersey County resident who served in World War I.
Joint visitation for Mr. Loy and his wife was Wednesday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, with the Rev. William H. Hembrow officiating. American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528 will conduct full military honors at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children in St. Louis.
