Mr. William Charles Woodard, 77, of Waycross died early Sunday at Memorial Health Systems in Savannah after an extended illness. He was born in Ware County to the late Oscar Ambrose Woodard and Fannie Pearl Driggers Woodard. Mr. Woodard had made Waycross and Ware County his home for his entire life. He attended the Woodard-Godwin School which was located close to the present day site of Woodard Chapel Church. Mr. Woodard served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He was owner and operator of Charles's Fill Dirt and Backhoe Service until he retired in the late 1990's. After his retirement he partnered with his two sons in Woodard Construction Company. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Brantley County and the Over The Hill Hunting Club in Bickley. Along with hunting, Mr. Woodard was an avid fisherman and loved watching NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Glenn Woodard, Sr., Donald Woodard, Lawrence Woodard, and three sisters, Dorothy Jean Strickland, Betty Vivian Jacobs, and Nell Glan Woodard.

Mr. Woodard is survived by his wife, Dale Woodard of Waycross, two sons, Charles Oscar "Chuck" Woodard and his wife Julie of Waycross, Jason Preston Woodard of Waycross, one daughter, Charlane Dale Leverett and her husband Allen of Waycross, four grandchildren, Dan Jacob Woodard, Kevin Charles Woodard, Dalton Caleb Leverett, Ellington Katherine Woodard, two sisters, Anna Laura Dowling of Waycross, Linda Spell of Waycross, two brothers, A.W. Woodard of Waycross, Jimmy Woodard and his wife Diane of Hoboken and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
