Mr. Lawrence M. Woodard, 73, of Waycross died suddenly Saturday at his residence after a brief illness. He was born in Waycross to the late Oscar Woodard and Fannie Driggers Woodard. Mr. Woodard made Waycross his home for most of his life. He worked thirty four years for CSX Railroad as a switchman and yard conductor before retiring in January of 2002. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Ware County Tax Assessor's Office. Mr. Woodard was a member of Comfort Chapel in Waycross. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Evon Mattie Lee Woodard, two brothers, Donald Woodard, Glen Woodard and three sisters, Betty Jacobs, Jean Strickland, and Nell Woodard.

Mr. Woodard is survived by a daughter, Dr. Sharron Woodard Thrift and her husband Gary of Waycross, two grandsons, Dustin Wayne Thrift and Zachary Lawrence Thrift of Waycross, three brothers, A.W. Woodard of Waycross, Charles Woodard of Waycross, Jimmy Woodard and his wife Diane of Hoboken, two sisters, Anne Laura Dowling of Waycross, Linda Spell of Waycross and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Members of Comfort Chapel and the Ware County Tax Assessor's Board of Directors have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should gather at the funeral home chapel, Monday by 1:45 p.m.
