Mrs. Dorothy Jean Woodard Strickland, 79, died early Saturday morning (December 9, 2006) at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta following a long illness.
She was a native of Ware County and resided all of her life in Ware County. She was married to the late Leon Carlos "Buddy" Strickland, Jr. and was the daughter of the late Oscar Woodard and Fannie Driggers Woodard. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Lawson; a grandson, Zachry McGhin; two sisters, Betty Jacobs and Nell Woodard; and a brother, Donald Woodard.
She was an employee of John H. Swisher and Son for 18 years and was of the Methodist Faith. Her Family loved her and she will be surely missed.
The survivors include a daughter, Donna Carpenter of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Annie Laura Dowling and Linda Spell both of Waycross; five brothers, Charles Woodard (wife Dale), Lawrence Woodard (wife Evon), A.W. Woodard, Glenn Woodard (wife Janie) all of Waycross, Jimmy Woodard (wife Diane) of Hoboken; four grandchildren, Chuck Carpenter (wife Sandi) of Columbus, Carla Johnson (husband Oliver) of Pinehurst, NC, Lisa Morgan (husband Jeff) of Waycross, Earl J. Lawson of Texas; two great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews including Tim and Jim Woodard.
A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday (December 12, 2006) at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Monday night from 6 until 8.
