He achieved the rank of Full Corporal, probably with a subsequent service. His first wife was Nancy Lewis whom he married 17 Mar 1863 in Warren Co IL. She died in 1878 in Mahaska Co IA. They had four children: Charles J, Emma L, Mary E, and Sarah, who was born in 1867 in Iowa and died before 1878.
Nancy died in 1878, and Charles married Hellen White. He was living in Atlantic at the time of his death.
