Hedwig (Hattie) Theodore Eilers Bargen was on of 5 children born to Johann D. Eilers and Charlotte Kuper Eilers. She was born March 5, 1895, on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska.

She was baptised (sic) March 31, 1895, and confirmed April 4, 1909, at the Salem Lutheran Church near Superior, and was a life time member of the church.

She attended Garfield country school.

February 22, 1917, at the Salem Lutheran Church, she was united in marriage to Eilert A. Bargen. This union was blessed with 11 children. They spent 67 years together in the Cadams and Nora communities.

Hattie enjoyed sharing with and caring for her husband, her children and grandchildren, flowers and her church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Eilert on October 1, 1984, one son Albert Bargen and 4 infants.

She is survived by her children, Donald and his wife Norma, Lyndall and his wife Bonnie, all of Nora, Nebraska, Evelyn and her husband Hal Moore of Alexandria, Virginia, Wilma and her husband Melvin Kugler of Mankato, Kansas, Norma Anne Eilliott (sic - should be Elliott) of Topeka, Kansas, and Lorene and her husband Harry Saathoff of Hebron, Nebraska; one sister, Elsie Mueller of Nelson; 21 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Hattie passed away January 25, 1986, in the Brodstone Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 28, 1986, at 10:00 a.m. from the Salem Lutheran Church near Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Roger Lenander officiating. Music was provided by Alfred and Janell Hanson singing "God So Loved The World" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" with Lillian Christensen as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Kevin Saathoff, Kurt Saathoff, Jeff Kugler, Doug Kugler, Gary Tordrup and Gregg Wiedel. Burial was in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements were by Megrue-Price Funeral Home.
