Johann Dietrich Eilers was born at Grabstede Amt Varel, March 20, 1863, and confirmed April 15, 1877, at Bockhorn, Oldenburg.

He was married to Charlotte Kuper of Bockhorn March 18, 1872. To this marriage were born five children - Mrs. Margaret Grummert, Mrs. Hattie Bargen, Otto D. Eilers, Mrs. Erma Hinz, Mrs. Elsie Mueller; and 27 grand children, all residing in this vicinity.

He was one of eight members who founded the Salem congregation and served on the first council of the church. He passed away in the early hours of May 18th, 1942.
