William Johnson, 78, Dies in S.F.: Funeral services will be held on Friday for William Johnson of 1414 E. 16th St., who died Tuesday at a local hospital. He was 78. Rev. H.M. Blegen will officiate at the 10:30 p.m. rites at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. to the service hour when the casket will be closed. Miller Funeral Home is incharge. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Mr. Johnson was born in Arvika, Sweden on Feb 22, 1882. He moved to the United States at the age of 19 and worked on farms in Nebraska until 1906. He then homesteaded at Faith, S.D. He moved to Sioux Falls in 1913. He married Ethel Gertrude Hetrick on Sept 15, 1915, in Sioux Falls. Mr. Johnson did contracting and plastering until 1951. The couple lived in east Sioux Falls from 1930 to 1948. Mr. Johnson served on the school board there from 1932 to 1936. Survivors are the widow; 2 daughters, Mrs. Vida Moeller, and Mrs. Wanda Moore, both of Sioux Falls; 4 sons, William, Brandon; Edwin and Carroll, Azusa, Calif., and Gerald, Sioux Falls; 29 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and sister in Sweden. A daughter (a niece, daughter of Cyrilla) Mrs. Sylvia Kennedy preceded Mr. Johnson in death.
