The funeral services of Patriarch Thomas Hicken were held in the stake tabernacle last Saturday afternoon and were presided over by E. D. Clyde of the stake presidency.

The opening musical number was rendered by the Heber 2nd ward choir, "Tho Deep'ning TrialsThrong Your Way." Prayer was offered by Joseph Moulton. "What Voice Salutes the Startled Ear" was sung. Patriarch R. S. Duke spoke (?)most reverently of his long acquaintance with Bro. Hicken and said they had together in all avocations of life pertaining to pioneering.

Patriarch N. C. Murdock testified to the faithfulness of the departed as an ever ready church worker. D. A. Broadbent said he saw everything glorious in the services being held, and after (?)fifteen years of acquaintance with the deceased had come to the conclusion that if there are any on earth who are prepared to meet their maker, Brother Hicken was because of his merit. Said that the one in whose honor the services were being held was one of the best educated men of the day: not in books perhaps, but in faith, love, charity, goodness. A man of God, full of blessings and gladness, who has served in all capacities. Said that the floral offerings were beautiful but nothing to compare with the beauty of the life of the man.

Bishop Rasband said that Bro. Hicken was always ready to uphold the authorities of the ward in which he lived. Speaker relatede the circumstances relative to the sicknerss of the deceased and said that through it all Bro. Hicken had been cheerful as was his custom to be.

President Jos. R. Murdock ventured to say that there were none who knew of a willful wrong act of Bro. Hicken. He was a man who was a valiant defender of the truth all his life, one who could speak with power and one who had loyally supported President Abram Hatch, Pres. Smart and the present stake presidency. He read from the sermon on the mount, the beatitudes and said that all these passages refer directly to such as Bro. Hicken. Speaker further read from the first chapter of Revelations and said that if any shall be entitled to be king or priest unto God, Brother Hicken is.

Pres. E. D. Clyde endorsed the remarks of the various speakers and said that his
memory could not recall a man who had lived the gospel better than Bro. Hicken had.

"Nearer My God to Thee" was rendered by the choir and the closing prayer was offered by William Lindsay.
