Orson was two years old when his parents brought their family to America from England . They spent a year on the frontier before starting west. Even though he was only three years old, he walked a lot of the way across the plains. By the time he was 18 he was doing a man's work. He answered a call to go back east to help bring some of the immigrants to the valley. Upon his return, he helped haul rocks for the temple. After his marriage, they both worked hard to supply the needs of the family. Emily carded, washed, spun, and used the wool from their sheep for clothes and quilts. Orson worked for the railroad for a time. He was called on a mission in 1888 , leaving his wife with seven boys and and one girl. He was gone 25 months. After his return, he was made a member of the bishopric. He loved serving in the church and helping the members. He set a good example for his children and others, by helping people and filling church callings. Orson and Emily celebrated their sixtieth wedding annivery in 1928 . Emily died shortly after, and Orson died a year later. Children: Orson Thomas , b. 8 Nov 1868 , Heber City, Utah . Frederick , b. 1870 , Heber, Utah . plus five more boys and 1 girl and one child born five months after he left on his mission. Jerrol Hicken
