Hazel Erickson Richardson

Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, Hazel Weston Erickson Richardson, passed away on December 8, 2023, at the age of 98 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Hazel was born September 24, 1925, to Benjamin Weston and Lauretta Pearl Early in Laketown, Utah.

She attended Laketown Elementary and graduated from North Rich High School in Laketown, Utah. Hazel was a self-taught musician and according to her yearbook, she was voted most beautiful girl in her class. She then attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. After graduation, she secured a job at Utah State University and worked there until she met and married Dean Durfey Erickson on August 14, 1946. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS temple on October 12, 1966, for time and all eternity and Dean passed away on January 29, 1973.

Hazel was a member of the Beaver Dam LDS ward where she served in many callings over the years.

Hazel loved to do hand work. She crocheted beautiful doilies and afghans which we are all recipients of. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ.

On May 26, 1976, she married Joseph Conrad Richardson and resided in Smithfield until his death on January 8, 2001. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Mesquite, Nevada where she mastered playing bingo with her sisters.

The last 8 years of her life she resided in Ogden with her daughter, Lauretta Hansen.

Hazel was preceded in death by her mother, father, 11 brothers and sisters, and a son-in-law, Brent Cowley.

Hazel is survived by 8 children; CalDean Erickson, Lauretta (Rett) Hansen, Darrell Grant Erickson (LaDawn), Stephanie Nelson, Cheryl Ann Cowley, Lee Thomas, Holly Pottle (Joe) and Troy Erickson (Misty). Thirty one grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the Beaver Ward Chapel, 16025 N. Beaver Dam Rd, Collinston, Utah, 84306. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the church. The interment will be at the Beaver Dam Cemetery.
