Frances Helen "Alters" Byers, passed away on January 7, 2023, at her home in Millheim. She was 93. Born March 16, 1929, in Coburn, Frances was a daughter of the late James and Hattie "Shawver" Alters.

Frances was a 1947 graduate of the former East Penns Valley High School. On June 18, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran church in Millheim, she married Paul R. "Wonky" Byers, Jr. who preceded her in death on October 17, 1996. She was a member of the former St. John's United Church of Christ in Millheim where she had served on the Consistory a short time. When St. John's closed, she transferred her membership to Salem United Church of Christ in Spring Mills. She had been employed at the former Valley Manufacturing in Millheim and later Gettig Pharmaceuticals in Spring Mills.

Frances was the youngest in a family of eleven. She is the last of her generation having been preceded by brother's Paul, Lawrence, Elmer, Ralph, Richard, Jay, Leon, and three-year-old Dean, and sisters, Goldie Smith and Bernice Snyder. She enjoyed crocheting Christmas ornaments and afghan's for family and friends, reading, shopping, going out to eat and long drives in the country. Frances is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Valley View Rehab, Mount Nittany Medical Center, 365 Hospice and her special caregiver of nine years, Victoria Palmer, for the wonderful and loving care that was given to Frances.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, from 10-11 am at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Amy Alters Anyangu officiating. Frances will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Millheim. Contributions in her memory may be given to Penns Valley EMS, 106 Ross Hill Road, Spring Mills, PA 16875 or to St. Jude's at Memorial Giving, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105.
